A List of Churches That Allow Non-Members to Rent Their Facilities

All Saints Chapel in Downtown Raleigh 919-459-3212

Restored 19th century church/chapel that has facilities for the reception in a modern room downstairs.

St. Marks Chapel in Mordecai Historic Park 919-857-4364

Small lovingly restored chapel in the downtown Raleigh park that is owned by the city of Raleigh. Seating is limited. Reception would need to be offsite.

St. Mary's School Chapel 919-424-4000 just north of Hillsborough in Orange County off St. Mary's Road. This tiny chapel seats perhaps 20 people and is a charming out of the way venue.

Unitarian Universalist Congregations:

UU Fellowship of Raleigh, Wade Avenue - gorgeous large sanctuary and fellowship hall.

Community Church of Chapel Hill - UU - lovely indoor and outdoor sanctuaries, and a great big fellowship hall. Near UNC campus.

Eno River UU Fellowship - Garrett Rd, Durham.

UU Congregation of Hillsborough, Old NC 10 Rd. Lovely natural lighting. One large room to hold both the ceremony and the reception for max. 100 to 120 people.

Many other churches are amenable to renting space to outside interests. It is customary and a courtesy to get permission from the church's minister or from the Board of Directors or Trustees of the congregation when you would like a minister other than the congregation's chosen minister to officiate the ceremony

A List of Low Cost Local Venues for Very Small Weddings

Rev. Robin Renteria is often asked to officiate elopement ceremonies for groups of 12 or less people. Couples often want a site that is low cost and outdoors because they only want to use if for a half hour and will then go to a local restaurant. The list below is compiled of sites and ideas that she has used in the past. There are many others that can be found. Let this spark your own ideas.

Jordan Lake State Park - The Ebenezer Church Road Shelter is a great space with a water view.

Community Clubhouses, green spaces, or playgrounds. Five Oaks Clubhouse in Durham is an example of a great venue with kitchen facilities and great parking. Rev. Robin Renteria has officiated at lots of small ceremonies in subdivision greenways or near subdivision ponds. If you have a friend who lives in the subdivision ask them to sponsor you. She has even officiated at playgrounds in local small neighborhood parks. Locals love the wonderful energy of the wedding.

Office Complex Greenspaces or Atriums. An example is in Durham by the office park next to the Doubletree Inn. It has a beautiful fountain and pond.

Local Churches - the churches, like those listed above, can offer wonderful facilities for much below the standard commericial rental fees.

Meeting Spaces - Rev. Robin Renteria recently officiated a ceremony at a lovely meeting room in the N.C. Zoo because the mother of the bride worked there.

Private Homes - We're blessed to have lots of green around so people have lovely gardens. Rev. Robin Renteria is sure that many people would love to show them off.
