Life is not a goal to be achieved.
It is a gift to be received.
~ Henri Nouwen
Life is a journey with
bends and turns;
full of beauty, grandeur,
power, inspiration, and
possibilities for love.
It is up to each of us to create a life
of joy, vitality, and purpose.

My Philosophy
My years working as a hospital chaplain and minister have taught me that the only true moment we have in which to live our love is now. It is now that we can love our families, face our fears, forgive our enemies, heal our wounds, celebrate our joy, engage in meaningful work, nurture our bodies, nourish our planet - and celebrate the miraculous gift of life and love.
My calling is celebrating this gift with you.

My Journey
I always love what I learn when I allow life's surprising twists and turns. It's not always easy, but I'm getting better at it. I was a foreign exchange student in South Africa in high school, got a Math degree in 1972 from UT-Austin. Then, in 1974 I married, and soon after adopted my daughter, Renee.
In 1990 I gave up my career in project management for oil companies to backpack through Asia and the Middle East. The prior three years I'd had bad health, a bad car wreck, and a difficult divorce. While in Nepal, a friend and I set up a foundation to fund rural Nepali women to go to college. It funded 16 students by 1995.
In 1994, I earned an M.Div. and was ordained as a Unitarian Universalist minister, (uua.org). I served hospitals and congregations for the next 12 years, and earned a Ph.D. at UNCG in 2001 exploring how we learn and grow. My Sweetheart of ten years (that's him below) is named Ruben. The similarity in our names is proof to us that the Universe has a sense of humor.
Since 2008 I've focused my life's work on honoring the rituals of our lives with the joy and love they deserve. This brings me into contact with wonderful people who never cease to amaze and inspire me.

As a wedding minister, or wedding officiant, I primarily serve Orange, Durham, Wake, Chatham, Alamance, Guilford, Person, and Johnston counties and the towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham, Raleigh, Hillsborough, Cary, Mebane, Holly Springs, Fuquay Varina, Apex, Bahama, Burlington, Efland, and Greensboro. I welcome other requests and will honor them as time permits.
